About This Text
Author: Eliezer Berkovits
Composed: Berlin, Germany, c.1931 – c.1935 CE
Originally initiated at the request of the Nazi regime in the 1930's, the author explains the nature and development of the Talmud in a sophisticated yet accessible manner. Disappointed that it did not show the Talmud's "true nature," the book was immediately burned by the authorities. The current translation from the German includes two chapters not published in the original due to fear of Nazi reaction.
