Blessed are You, G-d, Ruler of the Universe, Who made us holy with His commandments, took pleasure in us, and with love and favor gave us His holy Sabbath as an inheritance, a remembrance of Creation. For that day is the prologue to the holy festivals, a memorial of the Exodus from Egypt. For You chose us and You sanctified us from all the nations. And Your holy Sabbath, with love and favor, You gave us as a heritage. Blessed are You, G-d, Who sanctifies the Sabbath.

For it is the first of all the holy days proclaimed, a symbol of the Exodus from Egypt.
