רָאוּי לָאָדָם לְהִתְבּוֹנֵן בְּמִשְׁפְּטֵי הַתּוֹרָה הַקְּדוֹשָׁה וְלֵידַע סוֹף עִנְיָנָם כְּפִי כֹּחוֹ. וְדָבָר שֶׁלֹּא יִמְצָא לוֹ טַעַם וְלֹא יֵדַע לוֹ עִלָּה אַל יְהִי קַל בְּעֵינָיו וְלֹא יַהֲרֹס לַעֲלוֹת אֶל יקוק פֶּן יִפְרֹץ בּוֹ.
It is appropriate for a person to meditate on the judgments of the holy Torah and know their ultimate purpose according to his capacity. If he cannot find a reason or a motivating rationale for a practice, he should not regard it lightly. Nor should he break through to ascend to G-d, lest G-d burst forth against him.
(א) ויקחו אליך (במדבר יט ב). אמר ר' יוסי בר חנינא א"ל הקב"ה למשה, לך אני מגלה טעמו של פרה, אבל לאחרים חקה,
(1) (Numb. 19:2, cont:) THAT THEY BRING UNTO YOU <A RED HEIFER WITHOUT BLEMISH>. R. Jose bar Hanina said: the Holy One said to Moses. To you I am revealing the reason for the heifer, but to others it is an unquestioned statute.
