רֶגַע שֶׁל עִבְרִית A Moment of Hebrew
וַיֹּאמַר ה' מִסִּינַי בָּא וְזָרַח מִשֵּׂעִיר לָמוֹ
הוֹפִיעַ מֵהַר פָּארָן וְאָתָה מֵרִבְבֹת קֹדֶשׁ
מִימִינוֹ אֵשׁ דָּת לָמוֹ׃
Moshe said: God came from Sinai, and shone upon them from Seir
God appeared from Mount Paran, and approached from Rivevot-kodesh
The fire of religion was coming at them from God’s right.
לִזְרֹחַ lizro’ah (שֹׁרֶשׁ ז.ר.ח)
- To shine, to glow
מִזְרַח (mizrah) = East
זְרִיחָה (zerihah) = Sunrise
זַרְחָן (zarhan) = Phosphorus
Find the Word!
There are at least two people in Sefer Bereishit whose name comes from this שֹׁרֶשׁ (shoresh, root). Can you find them? (Hint: One is a son of Yaakov [Bereishit 38:30] and one is son of Esav [Bereishit 36:13]).
