(א) וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהֹוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (ב) דַּבֵּר֙ אֶל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְיִקְחוּ־לִ֖י תְּרוּמָ֑ה מֵאֵ֤ת כׇּל־אִישׁ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִדְּבֶ֣נּוּ לִבּ֔וֹ תִּקְח֖וּ אֶת־תְּרוּמָתִֽי׃
(1) The LORD spoke to Moses, saying: (2) Tell the Israelite people to bring Me gifts; you shall accept gifts for Me from every person whose heart so moves him.
(ח) וְעָ֥שׂוּ לִ֖י מִקְדָּ֑שׁ וְשָׁכַנְתִּ֖י בְּתוֹכָֽם׃ (ט) כְּכֹ֗ל אֲשֶׁ֤ר אֲנִי֙ מַרְאֶ֣ה אוֹתְךָ֔ אֵ֚ת תַּבְנִ֣ית הַמִּשְׁכָּ֔ן וְאֵ֖ת תַּבְנִ֣ית כׇּל־כֵּלָ֑יו וְכֵ֖ן תַּעֲשֽׂוּ׃ {ס}
(8) And let them make Me a sanctuary that I may dwell among them. (9) Exactly as I show you—the pattern of the Tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings—so shall you make it.
וְעָ֥שׂוּ לִ֖י מִקְדָּ֑שׁ וְשָֽׁכַנְתִּ֖י בְּתוֹכָֽם:
Oh Lord prepare me
To be a sanctuary
Pure and holy
Tried and true
And with thanksgiving

וַהֲקֵמֹתָ אֶת־הַמִּשְׁכָּן כְּמִשְׁפָּטוֹ אֲשֶׁר הָרְאֵיתָ בָּהָר. (שמות כו:ל) |
“And erect the tabernacle according to its plan which you were shown on the mountain.”[1] |

ומה הראהו בהר כשאשר לו וְעָשׂוּ לִי מִקְדָּשׁ באותה שעה תוה משה רבינו של עולם איזה מקום יכילך אמר לו לא כשם שאתה סבור אלא עשה אתה כשנברא העולם וכשנתחתם נופך כך עשה המשכן וכך היה |
And what was Moshe shown on the mountain He was told, “And make me a sanctuary….”[2] At that moment, Moshe was astonished asking “Master of the Universe, what place could contain You God said to him, “It’s not like you think. Rather, make the sanctuary like the world is made; interpret what you see, and so make the tabernacle.” |

המשכן דומה לעולם ולגופו שלאדם. |
And this is why the tabernacle resembles the world and the human body. |

במשכן היו הקרשים קבועין בתוך האדנים ובגוף הצלעות קבועות בתוך חחליות ובעולם ההרים קבועים בארץ. |
In the tabernacle, the planks are fixed into the sockets; in the body, the ribs are fixed into the vertebrae; in the world, the mountains are fixed into the land. |

במשכן הקרשים מצופין זהב ובגוף הצלעות מלובשות בשר ובעולם ההרים מלובשים עפר. |
In the tabernacle, the planks are covered in gold; in the body, the ribs are clothed in flesh; in the world, the mountains are clothed in earth. |

במשכן הבריחים בתוך הקרשים מעמידין אותן ובגוף איברים וגידים נמתחין ומעמידין את הגוף ובעולם ארבעה יסודות אחוזין זה בזה. |
In the tabernacle, the bolts in the planks stand them up; in the body, the organs and tendons stretch and stand it up; in the world, the four elements connect to one another. |

במשכן יריעות פרושים על הקרשים ובגוף בשרו שלאדם מכוסה בעור ובעולם השמים מכסין את הארץ וצדדיה ונקראו יריעות. |
In the tabernacle, tapestries spread out over the planks; in the body, a person’s flesh is covered with skin; in the world, the heavens cover the earth and four directions [lit. sides] are called tapestries. |

במשכן אש ורוח ומים אש במזבח מים בכיור ורוח השכינה בו |
In the tabernacle, fire, air, and water: fire on the altar, water in the laver, air [representing] the Shekhina [dwelling] there; |

ובגוף ראשו שלאדם אש ולבו רוח ובטבו מים |
in the body, fire in the head air in the heart, water in the belly, |

ובעולם תולדות השמים אש תולדות אויר רוח תולדות ארץ מים אש למעלה ומים למטה ורוח מכריע ביניהם. |
in the world the heavens produce fire, the atmosphere produces air, and the earth produces water; fire from above, water from below, and air deciding between them.[3] |

במשכן ארון ובו תורה שיש בה מאתים ושמונה וארבעים מצות עשה ושלש מאות וחמשה וששים מצות לא תעשה |
In the tabernacle, the ark holds the Torah, which contains 248 obligatory commandments and 365 prohibitive commandments; |

ובגוף מאתים ושמונה וארבעים איברים כנגד מצות עשה ושלש מאות חמש ויששים גידים כבגד מצות לא תעשה, |
in the body, 248 organs corresponding to the obligatory commandments and 365 tendons corresponding to the prohibitive commandments |

ובעולם שלש מאות ששים וחמש ימות החמה ומאתים ושמונה וארבעים כנגד ירחי לידה בין שבעה לתשעה. |
in the world, 365 solar days, and 248 corresponding to the months of pregnancy, which are between seven and nine. |

במשכן הכרובים פורשין כנפיהן על הארון ובגוף הריאה כנפיה פררשין על הלב שהלב בית הבינה ובית החכמה ובעולם העופות טסין על חארץ. |
In the tabernacle, the cherubs spread their wings over the ark; in the body, the wings of the lungs spread over the heart, which is the place of wisdom and understanding; in the world, birds fly over the earth. |

במשכן היה מנורה ובה שבעה נרות ובגוף בראשו שלאדם שבעה שערים עמודי חכמה ובעולם שבעה כוכבים שהן מנהנין לעולם שבתי צדק מאדים חמה נוגה כוכב לבנה. |
In the tabernacle there are seven candles in the lamp; in the body, there are seven pillars of wisdom; in the world, there are seven planets with drive the world: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury, and the Moon. |

במשכן לחם הפנים נתון על השלחן ובגוף הבטן לא ימוש המזון מתוכו ובעולם הארץ נותנט מזון לבריות. |
In the tabernacle, the showbread is placed on the table; in the body, food doesn’t depart from within the intestines; in the world, the earth gives food to the creatures. |

במשכן היו עליו יריעות תכלת מעשה צורות ובגוף עורו שלאדם מזוין בכל מיני צורות במצח שני גבינין בזקנו בחוטמו בשניו בשפתיו ולבשונו ובעולם השמים מזוינות בכל מיני צורות חמה ולבנה וכוכבים בלילה. |
In the tabernacle, there are blue pictures on the tapestries; in the body, a person’s skin is adorned in many forms: forehead, two eyebrows, facial hair, nostrils, teeth, lips, and tongue in the world, the heavens are decorated*? with many forms: sun, moon and stars at night. |

במשכן היו עליו יריעות עזים מכסין אותו ובגוף שער מלובש על העור ומזיינו ובעולם העשבים והאילנות נצמחים בהרים ובבקעור ובמדברות והן זיון לעולם. |
In the tabernacle, there are goat skins on the sheets, covering it; in the body, hair clothes the skin and adorns it; in the world, grasses and trees grow on the mountains, in the valleys, and in the wild, adorning the world. |

במשכן שכינת הקב״ה והיתה מאירה כאור שבעתים ובגוף רוח ונשמה והיא מלך על הגוף ובעולם האור שהוא מאיר ומנהג את העולם והוא גנוז לצדיקים לעתיד. |
In the tabernacle, the presence of the blessed Holy One shines like the light of seventy [suns], in the body, the spirit and soul guide the body; in the world, the light which illumines and guides the world is hidden for the righteous in the future. |

במשכן הפרכת מבדלת בין הקדש לקדש הקדשים ובגוף סרעפת מבדלת בין הלב לבין הבטן ובעולם הרקיע שהוא מבדיל בין התחתונים לעליונים. |
In the tabernacle, the curtain divides between the Holy and the Holy of Holies; in the body, the diaphragm divides between the the heart and the intestines; in the world, the firmament divides between below and above. |

במשכן היו ארבעה כסויים יריעת תכלת יריעת עזים ערת אילם מאדמים ערת תחשים ובגוף ארבעה מינים מתנהג בהן בדיבור בריח בשמיעה בראייה ובעולם ארבע פנות מזרח ומערב צפון ודרום. |
In the tabernacle, there are four coverings: blue sheets, goatskins, red ram skins, seal skins; in the body, four senses: speech, smell, hearing, sight; in the world, four corners: east, west, north, and south. |

במשכן היו בו ששה דברים ארון שלחן מנורה ומזבח הזהב וכיור ומזבח העולה ובגוף כסל סרעף טחול מסיס קרב ובטן ובעולם מעלה ומטה מזרח ומערב צפון ודרום. |
In the tabernacle, there were six things: ark, table, lamp, golden altar, laver, and elevation offering altar; in the body: the pelvis, diaphragm, spleen, innards, intestines, kidneys; in the world: up, down, east, west, north, and south. |

במשכן היה הקול יוצא מבין שני הכרובים ובגוף הקול יוצא מבין כנפי הריאה ובעולם הרוח בראה הקב״ה ונתנה אחר הצפון ויש שם זוית שאינה מכוסה וממנה יוצא הרוח לעולם. |
In the tabernacle, the voice came from between the two cherubs; in the body, the voice comes from between the wings of the lungs; in the world, the blessed Holy One created the spirit and later placed it in the north, an angle which isn’t covered,[4] and from which comes wind to the world. |

במשכן יתידות ובגוף אצבעותיו שלאדם משופין כיתידות ובעולם צַדִּיק יְסוֹד עוֹלָם. |
In the tabernacle, nails; in the body, the fingers of a person are filed like nails; in the world, “the Tsaddik (Righteous One) is the foundation of the world.”[5] |

ועתיד הקב״ה לחדש משכן וגוף ועולם משכן מנין דכתיב ונתתי מִשְׁכָּנִי עֲלֵיהֶם גוף מנין דכתיב בְּפִתְחִי אֶת קִבְרוֹתֵיכֶם וּבְהַעֲלוֹתִי אֶתְכֶם מִקִּבְרוֹתֵיכֶם עַמִּי עולם מנין דכתיב כִּי הִנְנִי בוֹרֵא שָׁמַיִם חֲדָשִׁים וָאָרֶץ חֲדָשָׁה. |
The blessed Holy One will renew the tabernacle, body, and world. How do we know the tabernacle will be renewed? It is written, “I will give my tabernacle to them.”[6] How do we know the body will be renewed? It is written, “when I open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people.”[7] How do we know the world will be renewed? It is written, “Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth….”[8] |
(ב) וכן תעשו. לְדוֹרוֹת (סנהדרין ט"ז), אִם יֹאבַד אֶחָד מִן הַכֵּלִים, אוֹ כְּשֶׁתַּעֲשׂוּ לִי כְּלֵי בֵית עוֹלָמִים, כְּגוֹן שֻׁלְחָנוֹת וּמְנוֹרוֹת וְכִיּוֹרוֹת וּמְכוֹנוֹת שֶׁעָשָׂה שְׁלֹמֹה, כְּתַבְנִית אֵלּוּ תַּעֲשׂוּ אוֹתָם; וְאִם לֹא הָיָה הַמִּקְרָא מְחֻבָּר לְמַעְלָה הֵימֶנּוּ, לֹא הָיָה לוֹ לִכְתֹּב וְכֵן תַּעֲשׂוּ אֶלָּא כֵּן תַּעֲשׂוּ, וְהָיָה מְדַבֵּר עַל עֲשִׂיַּת אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וְכֵלָיו:
(2) וכן תעשו AND SO SHALL YE MAKE IT also in future generations (cf. Sanhedrin 16b); if one of the vessels is lost, or when you make for Me the vessels for the “House of Eternity” (another name for the Temple in Jerusalem), — as e. g., the tables, candlesticks, lavers and stands which Solomon had made — you shall make them after the pattern of these (the vessels of the Tabernacle).
