החכם עיניו בראשו להבין ולהשכיל אם הזמן גורם שיוכל לכוון בסוד הפנימי
ולהתענג … מוטב
ואם רואה הוא בסוד הקטנות
ואינו יכול לכוין,
שמתגברין עליו מחשבות זרות,
אזי יתפלל כתינוק בן יומא מתוך כתב, כאשר העיד מורי על עצמו
שהיה בארץ אחרת זמן מה בבחינה זו שנסתלק ממנו הנ״ל
והיה מדבק עצמו אל האותיות וכו׳ ואמר: כאשר מתפלל מתוך הכתב
ומדבק עצמו אל האותיות
אזי מעלה בחינת עשייה
כי תיבת ב׳ בינה.
וכך ציווה לאיש פרטי שיעשה כך
עד שחזר למדרגתו העליונה וכו׳
ודברי פי חכם חן.
The sage has eyes in his head so that he can discern and understand the time that is appropriate to intend his prayer in the secret of the inner [sense] in order to have delight … it is good but if someone sees that he
is in the secret of ḳaṭenut, and he cannot direct [his thoughts], because the alien thoughts are overcoming him, let him pray like a one-day-old child who reads the written text, as my teacher [the Besht] testified regarding himself:
when he was in another land, he was for a while in this aspect of ḳaṭenut, and that deserted him, and he was cleaving to the
[printed] letters etc., and he said:
“When someone prays from the written
text [ketav] and adheres to the letters,
then he elevates the aspect of ʿasiyah, because the word B is Binah.”
And he [the Besht] commanded to the particular man to do so, until he returns to his high degree, etc., and
the words of the wise are replete with grace.
