§ It is taught in a baraita: Rabbi Shimon ben Yoḥai says: Come and see how beloved the Jewish people are before the Holy One, Blessed be He. As every place they were exiled, the Divine Presence went with them. They were exiled to Egypt, and the Divine Presence went with them

במראת הלילה. בעצם היום התראה אליו במראות הלילה להשכילו שהגיע שעה לקבל עליו עול גלות שמכונה בשם לילה. והעולם חשוך אז מהופעת רוה״ק רק בשעות קצרות לצורך ענין כמו אור הברק שמבהיק את הלילה:
In the midst of that day God appeared to him in a vision of night. To inform him that the hour had arrived to receive the yoke of the exile, that is referred to by the name "night". And [when] the world is dark, the Ruach haKodesh-- the Spirt of the Holy [meaning prophecy] can only appear in brief moments, like the way lightning that illuminates the night.
