Engaging Families Through Sefaria
1) Share Familiar Rituals or Create New Ones
  • People may want to tap in to a beloved synagogue or school ritual, like a Shabbat song or a prayer for healing. Combine text and audio or video, and create a sheet that people can access anywhere, anytime.
  • Go deeper: When Jewish practice is home-centered, people may be interested in delving more deeply into the meaning of familiar practices. Use Sefaria connections in the side panel to help surface more information about common prayers or practices.
  • As people reach for new rituals to define these evolving times, introduce new texts for rituals, with media, via sheets.
  • Share by text, email, or WhatsApp, embed on a synagogue or organization's website, or link in a newsletter
2) Create A Personalized Library
  • Think of a Sefaria group as your own corner of a larger library. Create a group for your school or synagogue and fill it with resources that will be of interest to your community. All sheets in the group will be branded and can be shared via a single link.
  • Add media to your sheets, so that your library will include audio, video, and images
3) Use all available media
  • Consider all the media outlets with which your community engages. Clips from YouTube, music videos, pop songs, and memes, as well as recordings of educators, clergy, or students, can all help populate Sefaria sheets
  • Distribute on multiple channels: People are inundated over email, so start a group chat and share out a Sefaria sheet, or use WhatsApp to send targeted Torah messages to small groups within the community.
4) Invite whatever others can contribute
  • As people come together in times of crisis, they may be more willing to collaborate and share. Ask colleagues to co-create materials, and invite experts throughout the community to contribute. If there's a congregant who plays guitar, a student who excels at art, or anyone who can make any kind of how-to video, there are opportunities for people to contribute to the communal resources. Sefaria is a great platform for collaboration and sharing.
5) Model authentic learning
  • Consider teaching without a sheet, over Zoom: Share your screen and show your audience how you might go about discovering a connection to a source, an answer to a question, or a topical resources on Sefaria.
  • Share questions, learning challenges, or contests with the community, and empower them to explore, step-by-step, guided by your knowledge and expertise
