רִבּוֹנוֹ שֶׁל־עוֹלָם Master of the universe!
הֲרֵינִי מוֹחֵל I hearby forgive
לְכָל־מִי שֶׁהִכְעִיס וְהִקְנִיט אוֹתִי anyone who has angered me,
אוֹ שֶׁחָטָא כְּנֶגְדִי or sinned against me,
בֵּין בְּגוּפִי בֵּין בְּמָמוֹנִי either physically or financially,
בֵין בִּכְבוֹדִי בֵין בְכָל אֲשֶׁר לִי against my honor or anything that is mine,
בֵין בְּאוֹנֶס בֵּין בְּרָצוֹן whether accidentally or intentionally,
בֵּין בְּשׁוֹגֵג בֵּין בְּמֵזִיד inadvertently or deliberately,
בֵין בְּדִבּוּר בֵּין בְּמַעֲשֶׂה by speech or by deed,
בֵּין בְּגִלְגוּל זֶה in this incarnation
בֵּין בְּגִלְגּוּל אַחֵר or in any other
לְכָל־בַּר יִשְׂרָאֵל any Israelite [is forgiven],
וְלֹא יֵעָנֵשׁ שׁוּם אָדָם בְסִבָּתִי may no man be punished on my account.
יְהִי רָצוֹן מִלְּפָנֶֽיךָ May it be Your will,
יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהַי וֵאלֹהֵי אֲבוֹתַי Adonoy, my God and God of my fathers,
שֶׁלֹּא אֶחְטֶא עוֹד that I shall sin no more
וְלֹא אֶחֱזוֹר בָּהֶם nor repeat my sins,
וְלֹא אָשׁוּב עוֹד לְהַכְעִיסֶךָ neither shall I again anger You
וְלֹא אֶעֱשֶׂה הָרַע בְּעֵינֶֽיךָ nor do what is wrong in Your eyes.
וּמַה־שֶׁחָטָֽאתִי The sins I have committed,
מְחוֹק בְּרַחֲמֶֽיךָ הָרַבִּים erase in your abounding mercies,
וְלֹא עַל יְדֵי יִסּוּרִים וָחֳלָיִם רָעִים: but not through suffering or severe illnesses.
יִהְיוּ לְרָצוֹן May they be acceptable
אִמְרֵי־פִי the words of my mouth
וְהֶגְיוֹן לִבִּי לְפָנֶֽיךָ and the thoughts of my heart, before You
יְהֹוָה צוּרִי וְגֹאֲלִי: Adonoy, my Rock and my Redeemer.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהֹוָה Blessed are You, Adonoy,
אֱלֺהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם our God, King of the Universe,
הַמַּפִּיל חֶבְלֵי שֵׁנָה Who causes the fetters of sleep to fall
עַל עֵינָי upon my eyes,
וּתְנוּמָה עַל עַפְעַפָּי: and slumber upon my eyelids.
וּמֵאִיר לְאִישׁוֹן בַּת עָיִן. And illuminates the pupil of the eye.
וִיהִי רָצוֹן מִלְּ֒פָנֶֽיךָ May it be Your will,
יְהֹוָה אֱלֺהַי וֵאלֺהֵי אֲבוֹתַי Adonoy, my God and God of my fathers
שֶׁתַּשְׁכִּיבֵֽנִי לְשָׁלוֹם to make me lie down in peace,
וְתַעֲמִידֵֽנִי and to raise me (again)
לְחַיִים טוֹבִים וּלְשָׁלוֹם to good life and peace,
וְתֵן חֶלְקֵי בְּתוֹרָתֶךָ and grant me my portion in Your Torah,
וְתַרְגִילֵנוּ לִדְבַר מִצְוָה make us accustomed to do Your commands,
וְעַל תַּרְגִילֵנוּ לִדְבַר עַבֵרָה and let us not become accustomed to sin,
וְאַל תְּבִיאֵֽנוּ Do not bring us
לֹא לִידֵי חֵטְא into the grasp of sin,
וְלֹא לִידֵי נִסָּיוֹן Do not cause us to be tested,
וְלֹא לִידֵי בִזָּיוֹן or brought to disgrace.
וְיִשְׁלֹט בִּי יֵצֵר הַטוֹב May I be ruled by the Good Inclination
וְאַל יִשְׁלֹט בִּי and let me not be ruled over
יֵֽצֶר הָרָע by the Evil Inclination.
וְתַצִילֵנוּ מִשָׂטָן Protect me from Satan,
וּמִפֶגַע רָע וּמֵחָלָיִם רָעִים from an evil mishap and from illnesses.
וְאַל יְבַהֲלֽוּנִי רַעְיוֹנַי Let my thoughts not terrify me—
וַחֲלוֹמוֹת רָעִים nor evil dreams
וְהַרְהוֹרִים רָעִים or evil fancies (disturb me),
וּתְהֵא מִטָּתִי שְׁלֵמָה לְפָנֶֽיךָ: and may my bed be perfect before You.1The word “bed” is used here figuratively for one’s future generations. See Rashi to Genesis 47:31; It was said of our forefather Jacob that “his bed was perfect: indicating that all his offspring were pure and steadfast.—Iyun T’filoh
וְהָאֵר עֵינַי And light up my eyes
פֶּן אִישַׁן הַמָּֽוֶת. lest I sleep the sleep of death,
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהֹוָה Blessed are You, Adonoy,
הַמֵּאִיר לָעוֹלָם כֻּלּוֹ Who illuminates the whole world
בִּכְבוֹדוֹ: with His glory.
If one has prayed Ma'ariv and with it recited Sh'ma earlier than the ideal time for the evening Sh'ma, he should repeat all of it here. Some people have the custom of reciting all three paragraphs here every night.
אֵל מֶֽלֶךְ נֶאֱמָן: Almighty, faithful King
שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל Hear, Israel
יְהֹוָה אֱלֺהֵֽינוּ Adonoy is our God
יְהֹוָה אֶחָד: Adonoy is One
The following three lines are to be said silently:
בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם Blessed [is His] Name,
כְּבוֹד מַלְכוּתוֹ Whose glorious Kingdom
לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד: is forever and ever.
וְאָהַבְתָּ אֵת יְהֹוָה אֱלֺהֶֽיךָ And you shall love Adonoy, your God
בְּכָל־לְבָבְ֒ךָ with all your heart
וּבְכָל־נַפְשְׁ֒ךָ and with all your soul
וּבְכָל־מְאֹדֶֽךָ: and with all your possessions.
וְהָיוּ הַדְּ֒בָרִים הָאֵֽלֶּה And these words
אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוּךָ הַיּוֹם which I command you today
עַל־לְבָבֶֽךָ: shall be upon your heart.
וְשִׁנַּנְתָּם And you shall teach them sharply
לְבָנֶֽיךָ to your children,
וְדִבַּרְתָּ בָּם and you shall discuss them
בְּשִׁבְתְּ֒ךָ בְּבֵיתֶֽךָ when you sit in your house,
וּבְלֶכְתְּ֒ךָ בַדֶּֽרֶךְ and when you travel on the road,
וּבְשָׁכְבְּ֒ךָ וּבְקוּמֶֽךָ: and when you lie down and when you rise.
וּקְשַׁרְתָּם לְאוֹת And you shall bind them for a sign
עַל־יָדֶֽךָ upon your hand,
וְהָיוּ לְטֹטָפֹת and they shall be for totafos
בֵּין עֵינֶֽיךָ: between your eyes.
וּכְתַבְתָּם And you shall write them
עַל־מְזֻזוֹת בֵּיתֶֽךָ upon the doorposts of your house
וּבִשְׁעָרֶֽיךָ: and upon your gateways.

וִיהִי נֹֽעַם אֲדֹנָי אֱלֺהֵֽינוּ May the pleasantness of my Master, our God,
עָלֵֽינוּ be upon us,2In this closing sentence of Psalm 90, Moses prays that the Divine Presence rest on the Jewish nation exclusively.
וּמַעֲשֵׂה יָדֵֽינוּ כּוֹנְ֒נָה עָלֵֽינוּ. and the work3David prays first that the service Jewry performs in the Sanctuary, the sacrificial offerings, and the general performance of mitzvos be willingly accepted by God. Then he prays that even the work we do for our own needs be acceptable before Gold.—Iyun T’Filoh of our hands establish for us
וּמַעֲשֵׂה יָדֵֽינוּ כּוֹנְ֒נֵֽהוּ: and the work4The first mention of work refers to the actual endeavors of our hands, whereas the second mention of work refers to what was achieved by our hands.—Iyun Tefilloh of our hands may He establish.
ישֵׁב He who dwells
בְּסֵֽתֶר עֶלְיוֹן. in the shelter of the Supreme One,
בְּצֵל שַׁדַּי יִתְלוֹנָן: under the protection of Shadai He will abide.
אֹמַר לַיהוָֹה I say of Adonoy,
מַחְסִי וּמְצוּדָתִי. [He is] my refuge and my stronghold,
אֱלֺהַי אֶבְטַח־בּוֹ: my God in Whom I trust.
כִּי הוּא יַצִּילְ֒ךָ מִפַּח יָקוּשׁ For He will save you from the snare-trap,
מִדֶּֽבֶר הַוּוֹת: from destructive pestilence.
בְּאֶבְרָתוֹ יָֽסֶךְ לָךְ With His wings He will cover you
וְתַֽחַת־כְּנָפָיו תֶּחְסֶה. and beneath His wings, you will find refuge;
צִנָּה וְסֹחֵרָה אֲמִתּוֹ: His truth is a shield, a full shield.
לֺא־תִירָא מִפַּֽחַד לָֽיְלָה. You will not fear the terror of night,
מֵחֵץ יָעוּף יוֹמָם: nor the arrow that flies by day,
מִדֶּֽבֶר בָּאֹֽפֶל יַהֲלֺךְ. the pestilence that prowls in darkness,
מִקֶּֽטֶב יָשׁוּד צָהֳרָֽיִם: nor the deadly plague that ravages at noon.
יִפֹּל מִצִּדְּ֒ךָ אֶֽלֶף A thousand will fall at your [left] side,
וּרְבָבָה מִימִינֶֽךָ. and ten thousand at your [right] side
אֵלֶֽיךָ לֺא יִגָּשׁ. but it5“It” refers to “arrow,” “pestilence,” and “plague” of the previous verse. shall not come near you.
רַק בְּעֵינֶֽיךָ תַבִּיט. Only with your eyes will you behold
וְשִׁלֻּמַת רְשָׁעִים תִּרְאֶה. and see the punishment of the wicked.6You will only see the destruction but you will not be harmed by it.
כִּי־אַתָּה For you [have proclaimed]:
יְהֹוָה מַחְסִי. Adonoy is my refuge,
עֶלְיוֹן the Supreme One
שַֽׂמְתָּ מְעוֹנֶֽךָ: you have made your dwelling
לֺא־תְאֻנֶּה אֵלֶֽיךָ רָעָה. No evil shall befall you,
וְנֶֽגַע לֺא־יִקְרַב בְּאָהֳלֶֽךָ: and no plague shall come near your tent.
כִּי מַלְאָכָיו For His angels
יְצַוּה־לָּךְ. He will command on your behalf—
לִשְׁמָרְךָ בְּכָל־דְּרָכֶֽיךָ: to guard you in all your ways.
עַל־כַּפַּֽיִם יִשָּׂאֽוּנְךָ. They will carry you upon their hands,
פֶּן־תִּגֹּף בָּאֶֽבֶן רַגְלֶֽךָ: lest you hurt your foot on a rock.
עַל־שַֽׁחַל וָפֶֽתֶן תִּדְרֹךְ. You will tread upon lion and snake,
תִּרְמֹס כְּפִיר וְתַנִּין: you will trample young lion and serpent.
כִּי בִי חָשַׁק Because he clings to Me with desire,
וַאֲפַלְּ֒טֵֽהוּ. I will save him;
אֲשַׂגְּ֒בֵֽהוּ כִּי־יָדַע שְׁמִי: I will strengthen him, for he knows My Name.
יִקְרָאֵֽנִי וְאֶעֱנֵֽהוּ When he calls upon Me, I will answer him;
עִמּוֹ־אָנֹכִי בְצָרָה. I am with him in distress,
אֲחַלְּ֒צֵֽהוּ וַאֲכַבְּ֒דֵֽהוּ: I will free him and honor him.
אֹֽרֶךְ יָמִים אַשְׂבִּיעֵֽהוּ. I will satiate him with longevity,
וְאַרְאֵֽהוּ בִּישׁוּעָתִי: and will let him see My deliverance.
אֹֽרֶךְ יָמִים אַשְׂבִּיעֵֽהוּ. I will satiate him with longevity
וְאַרְאֵֽהוּ בִּישׁוּעָתִי: and will let him see My deliverance.
Psalms 3:2-9
יְהֹוָה מָה־רַבּוּ צָרָי Adonoy, how many are my tormentors;7Psalm 3 was sung by David when, at the age of 65, he had to flee his son Absalom.
רַבִּים קָמִים עָלָי: many rise up against me.
רַבִּים אֹמְ֒רִים לְנַפְשִׁי Many say of my soul:
אֵין יְשׁוּעָֽתָה לוֹ There is no deliverance for him
בֵאלֺהִים סֶֽלָה: through God, forever.
וְאַתָּה יְהֹוָה מָגֵן בַּעֲדִי But You, Adonoy, are a shield for me;
כְּבוֹדִי וּמֵרִים רֹאשִׁי: my glory and Raiser of my head.
קוֹלִי אֶל־יְהֹוָה אֶקְרָא With my voice, I call out to Adonoy,
וַיַּעֲנֵֽנִי מֵהַר קָדְשׁוֹ and He answers me from His holy mountain,
סֶֽלָה: forever.
אֲנִי שָׁכַֽבְתִּי וָאִישָֽׁנָה I lay down and slept;
הֱקִיצֽוֹתִי כִּי יְהֹוָה יִסְמְ֒כֵֽנִי: I awake for Adonoy supports me.
לֺא אִירָא מֵרִבְבוֹת עָם I fear not the tens of thousands of people
אֲשֶׁר סָבִיב שָֽׁתוּ עָלָי: deployed against me from every side.
קוּמָה יְהֹוָה הוֹשִׁיעֵֽנִי אֱלֺהַי Rise Adonoy, deliver me, my God,
כִּי־הִכִּֽיתָ אֶת־כָּל אֹיְ֒בַי for You have struck all my enemies8David is confident of God’s help, because God has always smitten his enemies.—Radak
לֶֽחִי on the cheek;
שִׁנֵּי רְשָׁעִים שִׁבַּֽרְתָּ: You have broken the teeth of the wicked.
לַיהוָֹה הַיְ֒שׁוּעָה Deliverance is Adonoy's;
עַל־עַמְּ֒ךָ בִרְכָתֶֽךָ סֶֽלָה: upon Your people is Your blessing, selah.
הַשְׁכִּיבֵֽנוּ יְהֹוָה אֱלֺהֵֽינוּ לְשָׁלוֹם Adonoy, our God, make us lie down in peace,
וְהַעֲמִידֵֽנוּ מַלְכֵּֽנוּ our King, raise us [again]
לְחַיִּים טוֹבִים וּלשָׁלוֹם. to good life and peace.
וּפְרוֹשׂ עָלֵֽינוּ סֻכַּת שְׁלוֹמֶֽךָ Spread over us the shelter of Your peace,
וְתַקְּ֒נֵֽנוּ and direct us to better ourselves
בְּעֵצָה טוֹבָה מִלְּ֒פָנֶֽיךָ through Your good counsel;
וְהוֹשִׁיעֵֽנוּ מְהֵרָה לְמַֽעַן שְׁמֶֽךָ. and deliver us speedily for Your Name's sake.
וְהָגֵן בַּעֲדֵֽנוּ וְהָסֵר מֵעָלֵֽינוּ Shield us, and remove from us
אוֹיֵב דֶּֽבֶר enemies, pestilence,
וְחֶֽרֶב וְרָעָב וְיָגוֹן sword, famine and sorrow.
וְהָסֵר שָׂטָן מִלְּ֒פָנֵֽינוּ Remove the adversary from before us
וּמֵאַחֲרֵֽינוּ and from behind us,
וּבְצֵל כְּנָפֶֽיךָ תַּסְתִּירֵֽנוּ. and in the shadow of Your wings shelter us.
כִּי אֵל For You are the Almighty
שׁוֹמְ֒רֵֽנוּ וּמַצִּילֵֽנוּ אָֽתָּה Who is our protector and rescuer.
כִּי אֵל For You are the Almighty
מֶֽלֶךְ חַנּוּן וְרַחוּם אָֽתָּה. Who is King, Gracious, and Merciful.
וּשְׁמוֹר צֵאתֵֽנוּ וּבוֹאֵֽנוּ Guard our going out and our coming in
לְחַיִּים וּלְשָׁלוֹם for life and peace
מֵעַתָּה וְעַד עוֹלָם: from now, forever.
בָּרוּךְ יְהֹוָה בַּיּוֹם Blessed is Adonoy by day,
בָּרוּךְ יְהֹוָה בַּלָּֽיְלָה Blessed is Adonoy by night.
בָּרוּךְ יְהֹוָה בְּשָׁכְבֵֽנוּ Blessed is Adonoy when we lie down
בָּרוּךְ יְהֹוָה בְּקוּמֵֽנוּ. Blessed is Adonoy when we rise.
כִּי בְיָדְ֒ךָ For in Your hand
נַפְשׁוֹת הַחַיִּים וְהַמֵּתִים are the souls of the living and the dead,
אֲשֶׁר בְּיָדוֹ (as it is written): For in His hand
נֶֽפֶשׁ כָּל חָי is the soul of every living thing
וְרֽוּחַ כָּל בְּשַׂר אִישׁ. and the spirit of every human being.
בְּיָדְ֒ךָ אַפְקִיד רוּחִי In Your hand, I commit my spirit;
פָּדִֽיתָה אוֹתִי You have liberated me,
יְהֹוָה אֵל אֱמֶת. Adonoy, Almighty of truth.
אֱלֺהֵֽינוּ שֶׁבַּשָּׁמַֽיִם Our God in heaven,
יַחֵד שִׁמְךָ reveal the unity of Your Name,
וְקַיֵּם מַלְכוּתְ֒ךָ תָּמִיד preserve Your kingdom always,
וּמְלֺךְ עָלֵֽינוּ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד: and reign over us forever and ever.
יִרְאוּ עֵינֵֽינוּ May our eyes behold,
וְיִשְׂמַח לִבֵּֽנוּ וְתָגֵל נַפְשֵֽׁנוּ may our heart rejoice and our soul exalt
בִּישׁוּעָתְ֒ךָ בֶּאֱמֶת in Your true deliverance,
בֶּאֱמוֹר לְצִיּוֹן when it will be said to Zion:
מָלַךְ אֱלֺהָֽיִךְ. Your God has begun His reign
יְהֹוָה מֶֽלֶךְ יְהֹוָה מָלָךְ Adonoy is King, Adonoy was King,
יְהֹוָה יִמְלֹךְ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד: Adonoy will reign forever and ever
כִּי הַמַּלְכוּת שֶׁלְּ֒ךָ הִיא For the Kingdom is Yours
וּלְעֽוֹלְ֒מֵי עַד תִּמְלוֹךְ בְּכָבוֹד and to all eternity, You will reign in glory,
כִּי אֵין לָֽנוּ מֶֽלֶךְ אֶלָּא אָֽתָּה: for we have no king except You.
הַמַּלְאָךְ הַגֹּאֵל אֹתִי מִכָּל רָע The angel who redeemed me from all evil9These are the words used by Jacob when he blessed Joseph, and his sons Ephraim and Menashe.—Genesis 48:16
יְבָרֵךְ אֶת הַנְּ֒עָרִים May he bless the lads;
וְיִקָּרֵא בָהֶם שְׁמִי and may they be called by my name
וְשֵׁם אֲבוֹתַי and the names of my fathers,
אַבְרָהָם וְיִצְחָק Abraham and Isaac;
וְיִדְגּוּ לָרֹב and may they multiply
בְּקֶֽרֶב הָאָֽרֶץ: like fish within the land.
וַיֹּֽאמֶר אִם שָׁמֽוֹעַ תִּשְׁמַע And He said, "If you will diligently heed
לְקוֹל יְהֹוָה אֱלֺהֶֽיךָ the voice of Adonoy, your God,
וְהַיָּשָׁר בְּעֵינָיו תַּעֲשֶׂה and do what is upright in His eyes,
וְהַאֲזַנְתָּ לְמִצְוֹתָיו and listen carefully to His commandments,
וְשָׁמַרְתָּ כָּל חֻקָּיו and guard all His statutes—
כָּל הַמַּחֲלָה [then] every sickness
אֲשֶׁר שַֽׂמְתִּי בְמִצְרַֽיִם that I put in Egypt,
לֺא אָשִׂים עָלֶֽיךָ I will not put upon you,
כִּי אֲנִי יְהֹוָה רֹפְ֒אֶֽךָ: for I am Adonoy, your Healer.10Exodus 15:26
וַיֹּֽאמֶר יְהֹוָה אֶל הַשָּׂטָן And Adonoy said to Satan:
יִגְעַר יְהֹוָה בְּךָ הַשָּׂטָן Adonoy rebukes you, Satan,
וְיִגְעַר יְהֹוָה בְּךָ Adonoy rebukes you,
הַבֹּחֵר בִּירוּשָׁלָֽםִ He Who chose Jerusalem;
הֲלֺא זֶה אוּד for is this one not a firebrand
מֻצָּל מֵאֵשׁ plucked out of the fire?11Zechariah 3:2
הִנֵּה מִטָּתוֹ שֶׁלִּשְׁלֺמֹה Behold the bed of Solomon!
שִׁשִּׁים גִּבֹּרִים סָבִיב לָהּ Sixty mighty men [are set] around it,
מִגִּבֹּרֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל of the mighty men of Israel.
כֻּלָּם אֲחֻֽזֵי חֶֽרֶב All of them armed with swords,
מְלֻמְּ֒דֵי מִלְחָמָה trained in warfare;
אִישׁ חַרְבּוֹ עַל יְרֵכוֹ each man has his sword at his side,
מִפַּֽחַד בַּלֵּילוֹת because of the dread of the night.12Song of Songs 3:7-8
Each unit is said three times:
יְבָרֶכְךָ יְהֹוָה וְיִשְׁמְרֶֽךָ Adonoy bless you and guard you!
יָאֵר יְהֹוָה פָּנָיו אֵלֶֽיךָ Adonoy shine His countenance upon you
וִיחֻנֶּֽךָּ: and be gracious unto You!
יִשָּׂא יְהֹוָה פָּנָיו אֵלֶֽיךָ Adonoy turn His countenance toward you
וְיָשֵׂם לְךָ שָׁלוֹם: and grant you peace!13Numbers 6:24-26
הִנֵּה לֺא יָנוּם וְלֺא יִישָׁן Behold, He neither slumbers nor sleeps!
שׁוֹמֵר יִשְׂרָאֵל: the Guardian of Israel.14Psalms 121:4
לִישׁוּעָתְ֒ךָ קִוּיתִי יְהֹוָה For your deliverance, I hope, Adonoy;15Genesis 49:18
קִוּיתִי יְהֹוָה לִישׁוּעָתְ֒ךָ I hope, Adonoy, for Your deliverance;
יְהֹוָה לִישׁוּעָתְ֒ךָ קִוּיתִי Adonoy, for Your deliverance I hope.
בְּשֵׁם יְהֹוָה אֱלֺהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל In the Name of Adonoy, God of Israel:
מִימִינִי מִיכָאֵל at my right [hand] Michael,
וּמִשְּׂ֒מֹאלִי גַבְרִיאֵל at my left [hand] Gabriel,
וּמִלְּ֒פָנַי אוֹרִיאֵל before me Uriel,
וּמֵאֲחוֹרַי רְפָאֵל behind me Raphael,
וְעַל רֹאשִי שְׁכִינַת אֵל: and above my head, the Presence of Almighty.
שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת A song of ascents
אַשְׁרֵי כָּל־יְרֵא יְהֹוָה Fortunate are all who fear Adonoy,
הַהֹלֵךְ בִּדְרָכָיו: who walk in His ways.
יְגִֽיעַ כַּפֶּֽיךָ כִּי תֹאכֵל When you eat of the toil of your hands
אַשְׁרֶֽיךָ וְטוֹב לָךְ: you are fortunate and it is good with you.
אֶשְׁתְּ֒ךָ כְּגֶֽפֶן פֹּרִיָּה Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
בְּיַרְכְּ֒תֵי בֵיתֶֽךָ in the innermost parts of your house;
בָּנֶֽיךָ כִּשְׁתִלֵי זֵיתִים your children like olive plants
סָבִיב לְשֻׁלְחָנֶֽךָ: around your table.
הִנֵּה כִי־כֵן יְבֹֽרַךְ גָּֽבֶר Behold! thus shall be blessed the man
יְרֵא יְהֹוָה: who fears Adonoy.
יְבָרֶכְךָ יְהֹוָה מִצִּיּוֹן Adonoy bless you from Zion!
וּרְאֵה בְּטוּב יְרוּשָׁלָֽםִ and [may you] see the good of Jerusalem
כֹּל יְמֵי חַיֶּֽיךָ: all the days of your life!
וּרְאֵה־ May you [live to] see
בָנִים לְבָנֶֽיךָ your children's children!
שָׁלוֹם עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל: Peace upon Israel!16Psalms 128
To be said three times:
רִגְזוּ וְאַל תֶּחֱטָֽאוּ Tremble and do not sin;
אִמְרוּ בִלְבַבְכֶם עַל מִשְׁכַּבְכֶם commune with your hearts upon your bed,
וְדֹֽמּוּ סֶֽלָה: and be silent, selah!17Psalms 4:5
אֲדוֹן עוֹלָם אֲשֶׁר מָלַךְ. Master of the Universe Who reigned
בְּטֶֽרֶם כָּל יְצִיר נִבְרָא: before any creature was created.
לְעֵת נַעֲשָׂה בְחֶפְצוֹ כֹּל. At the time when all was made by His will,
אֲזַי מֶֽלֶךְ שְׁמוֹ נִקְרָא: then was His Name proclaimed King.
וְאַחֲרֵי כִּכְלוֹת הַכֹּל. And after all things shall cease to be
לְבַדּוֹ יִמְלֺךְ נוֹרָא: the Awesome One will reign alone.
וְהוּא הָיָה וְהוּא הֹוֶה. He was, He is,
וְהוּא יִהְיֶה בְּתִפְאָרָה: and He shall be in glory.
וְהוּא אֶחָד וְאֵין שֵׁנִי. He is One, and there is no second
לְהַמְשִׁיל לוֹ לְהַחְבִּֽירָה: to compare to Him, to associate [with Him].
בְּלִי רֵאשִׁית בְּלִי תַכְלִית. Without beginning, without end,
וְלוֹ הָעֹז וְהַמִּשְׂרָה: power and dominion are His.
וְהוּא אֵלִי וְחַי גּוֹאֲלִי. He is my God and my ever-living Redeemer,
וְצוּר חֶבְלִי בְּעֵת צָרָה: the Rock of my destiny in times of distress.
וְהוּא נִסִּי וּמָנוֹס לִי. He is my flag and my refuge;
מְנָת כּוֹסִי בְּיוֹם אֶקְרָא: He is the portion of my cup on the day I call.
בְּיָדוֹ אַפְקִיד רוּחִי. Into His hand I entrust my spirit
בְּעֵת אִישַׁן וְאָעִֽירָה: [both] when I sleep and when I awaken.
וְעִם רוּחִי גְּוִיָּתִי. And with my spirit my body [too],
יְהֹוָה לִי וְלֺא אִירָא: Adonoy is with me, I shall not fear.
