The following berachos are said under the marriage canopy
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהוָֹה Blessed are You, Adonoy,
אֱלֺהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, our God, King of the Universe
בּוֹרֵא פְּרִי הַגָּֽפֶן: Who creates the fruit of the vine.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהוָֹה Blessed are You, Adonoy,
אֱלֺהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, our God, King of the Universe
אֲשֶׁר קִדְּשָֽׁנוּ Who has sanctified us
בְּמִצְוֹתָיו with His commandments
וְצִוּנוּ and commanded us
עַל הָֽעֲרָיוֹת, regarding forbidden sexual relationships
וְאָֽסַר לָֽנוּ and forbade to us
אֶת הָאֲרוּסוֹת, betrothed women,
וְהִתִּיר לָֽנוּ and permitted to us [those women]
אֶת הַנְּשׂוּאוֹת לָֽנוּ who are married to us
עַל־יְדֵי חֻפָּה וְקִדּוּשִׁין. by means of the chupah and consecration.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהוָֹה Blessed are You, Adonoy,
מְקַדֵּשׁ עַמּוֹ יִשְׂרָאֵל Who sanctified His people Israel
עַל־יְדֵי חֻפָּה וְקִדּוּשִׁין: through the chupah and consecration.
Both the groom and the bride drink from the cup.
The groom then consecrates his bride to him with a ring, in the presence of two appropriate witnesses, and says:
הֲרֵי אַתְּ You are hereby
מְקֻדֶּֽשֶׁת לִי consecrated to me
בְּטַבַּֽעַת זוּ, with this ring
כְּדַת according to the rite of
מֹשֶׁה וְיִשְׂרָאֵל: Moses and Israel.
The kesubah (marriage contract) is read, after which the groom presents it to the bride.
A second cup of wine is poured, and the following "Seven Berachos" are recited.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהוָֹה 1. Blessed are You, Adonoy,
אֱלֺהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, our God, King of the Universe
בּוֹרֵא פְּרִי הַגָּֽפֶן: Who creates the fruit of the vine.
After Birkas Hamazon the "Seven Berachos" begin here, and are followed by number 1 above.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהוָֹה 2. Blessed are You, Adonoy,
אֱלֺהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, our God, King of the Universe
שֶׁהַכֹּל בָּרָא לִכְבוֹדוֹ: Who created everything for His glory.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהוָֹה 3. Blessed are You, Adonoy,
אֱלֺהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, our God, King of the Universe
יוֹצֵר הָאָדָם: Former of man.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהוָֹה 4. Blessed are You, Adonoy,
אֱלֺהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, our God, King of the Universe
אֲשֶׁר יָצַר אֶת הָאָדָם בְּצַלְמוֹ, Who formed man (Adam) in His image,
בְּצֶּֽלֶם דְּמוּת תַּבְנִיתוֹ, in the image of His likeness;
וְהִתְקִין לוֹ מִמֶּֽנּוּ and fashioned for him out of his very self
בִּנְיַן עֲדֵי עַד. a building (a wife: Eve) for eternity.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהוָֹה, Blessed are You, Adonoy,
יוֹצֵר הָאָדָם: Former of Man.
שׂוֹשׂ תָּשִׂישׂ וְתָגֵל הָעֲקָרָה, 5. May the barren one1The barren one refers to Jerusalem. be happy and exult
בְּקִבּוּץ בָּנֶֽיהָ with the ingathering of her children
לְתוֹכָהּ בְּשִׂמְחָה. into her midst with joy.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהוָֹה, Blessed are You, Adonoy,
מְשַׂמֵּֽחַ צִיּוֹן בְּבָנֶֽיהָ: Who gladdens Zion through her children.
שַׂמֵּֽחַ תְּשַׂמַּח 6. Grant abundant joy
רֵעִים הָאֲהוּבִים, to these beloved companions,
כְּשַׂמֵּחֲךָ יְצִירְךָ as You gladdened Your created being
בְּגַן עֵֽדֶן מִקֶּֽדֶם. in the Garden of Eden of old.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהוָֹה, Blessed are You, Adonoy,
מְשַׂמֵּֽחַ חָתָן וְכַלָּה: Who gladdens groom and bride.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהוָֹה 7. Blessed are You, Adonoy,
אֱלֺהֵֽינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, our God, King of the Universe,
אֲשֶׁר בָּרָא שָׂשׂוֹן וְשִׂמְחָה, Who created happiness and joy,
חָתָן וְכַלָּה, גִּילָה רִנָּה, groom and bride, exultation, song,
דִּיצָה וְחֶדְוָה, אַהֲבָה וְאַחֲוָה, pleasure, delight, love, brotherhood,
וְשָׁלוֹם וְרֵעוּת. peace and companionship.
מְהֵרָה יְהוָֹה אֱלֺהֵֽינוּ יִשָּׁמַע Soon, Adonoy, our God, may there be heard
בְּעָרֵי יְהוּדָה in the cities of Judah
וּבְחוּצוֹת יְרוּשָׁלָֽיִם, and in the streets of Jerusalem
קוֹל שָׂשׂוֹן, וְקוֹל שִׂמְחָה, the sound of happiness and the sound of joy,
קוֹל חָתָן the sound of the groom
וְקוֹל כַּלָּה, and sound of the bride,
קוֹל מִצְהֲלוֹת חֲתָנִים the sound of grooms' jubilation
מֵחֻפָּתָם, from their chupah,
וּנְעָרִים מִמִּשְׁתֵּה נְגִינָתָם. and of the youths from their feasts of song.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהוָֹה, Blessed are You, Adonoy,
מְשַׂמֵּֽחַ חָתָן עִם הַכַּלָּה: Who gladdens the groom with the bride.
