מָגֵן אָבוֹת בִּדְבָרוֹ. Shield of [our] fathers with His word,
מְחַיֵּה מֵתִים Resurrector of the dead
בְּמַאֲמָרוֹ. with His utterance;
הַמֶּלֶךְ הַקָּדוֹשׁ the King, the Holy One
שֶׁאֵין כָּמֽוֹהוּ. Who has no peer.
הַמֵּנִֽיחַ לְעַמּוֹ He gives rest to His people
בְּיוֹם שַׁבַּת קָדְשׁוֹ. on the day of His holy Shabbos
כִּי בָם רָצָה for with them He was pleased
לְהָנִֽיחַ לָהֶם. to grant them rest.
לְפָנָיו נַעֲבוֹד Before Him we will serve
בְּיִרְאָה וָפַֽחַד. with fear and trepidation,
וְנוֹדֶה לִשְׁמוֹ and give thanks to His Name
בְּכָל יוֹם תָּמִיד every day continuously,
מֵעֵין הַבְּרָכוֹת: from the essence of the blessings.
אֵל הַהוֹדָאוֹת. Almighty of thanksgiving,
אֲדוֹן הַשָּׁלוֹם. Master of peace,
מְקַדֵּשׁ הַשַּׁבָּת Sanctifier of the Shabbos,
וּמְבָרֵךְ שְׁבִיעִי. Who blesses the seventh day
וּמֵנִֽיחַ בִּקְדֻשָּׁה and grants rest in sanctity
לְעַם מְדֻשְּׁנֵי עֹֽנֶג to a people sated with delight—
זֵֽכֶר לְמַעֲשֵׂה בְרֵאשִׁית: in commemoration of the work of creation.
אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ וֵאלֹהֵי אֲבוֹתֵֽינוּ Our God, and God of our fathers,
רְצֵה נָא בִמְנוּחָתֵֽנוּ. be pleased with our rest,
קַדְּשֵֽׁנוּ בְּמִצְוֹתֶֽיךָ sanctify us with Your commandments
וְתֵן חֶלְקֵֽנוּ בְּתוֹרָתֶֽךָ and give us our share in Your Torah;
שַׂבְּעֵֽנוּ מִטּוּבֶֽךָ. satisfy us from Your goodness
וְשַׂמְּחֵֽנוּ בִּישׁוּעָתֶֽךָ: and gladden us with Your deliverance,
וְטַהֵר לִבֵּֽנוּ לְעָבְדְּךָ בֶּאֱמֶת. and purify our hearts to serve You in truth.
וְהַנְחִילֵֽנוּ And give us as our inheritance,
יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ Adonoy our God,
בְּאַהֲבָה וּבְרָצוֹן in love and in pleasure
שַׁבַּת קָדְשֶֽׁךָ. Your holy Shabbos;
וְיָנֽוּחוּ בָהּ יִשְׂרָאֵל and may Yisrael rest thereon—
מְקַדְּשֵׁי שְׁמֶֽךָ. the sanctifiers of Your Name.
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְהֹוָה Blessed are You Adonoy,
מְקַדֵּשׁ הַשַּׁבָּת: Sanctifier of Shabbos.
The following is said responsively:
לְדָוִד מִזְמוֹר A Psalm of Dovid:
לַיהֹוָה הָאָֽרֶץ וּמְלוֹאָהּ the earth is Adonoy’s and the fullness thereof,
תֵּבֵל the inhabited world
וְיֽשְׁבֵי בָהּ: and those who dwell in it.
כִּי־הוּא עַל־יַמִּים יְסָדָהּ For He founded it upon the seas,
וְעַל־נְהָרוֹת יְכוֹנְנֶֽהָ: and established it upon rivers.
מִי־יַעֲלֶה בְהַר־יְהֹוָה Who may ascend the mountain of Adonoy,
וּמִי יָקוּם and who may stand
בִּמְקוֹם קָדְשׁוֹ: in the place of His holiness?
נְקִי כַפַּֽיִם וּבַר־לֵבָב The clean of hands and the pure of heart,
אֲשֶׁר לֹא־נָשָׂא לַשָּׁוְא נַפְשִׁי who has not borne My soul in vain,
וְלֹא נִשְׁבַּע לְמִרְמָה: and has not sworn deceitfully.
יִשָּׂא בְרָכָה מֵאֵת יְהֹוָה He will bear Adonoy’s blessing
וּצְדָקָה and righteousness
מֵאֱלֹהֵי יִשְׁעוֹ: from the God of his deliverance.
זֶה דּוֹר דּוֹרְשָׁיו This is the generation of those who seek Him,
מְבַקְשֵׁי פָנֶֽיךָ the seekers of Your Presence,
יַעֲקֹב סֶֽלָה: [God of] Yaakov, selah.
שְׂאוּ שְׁעָרִים רָאשֵׁיכֶם Lift up your heads, gates,
וְהִנָּשְׂאוּ and be uplifted
פִּתְחֵי עוֹלָם [you] entranceways to eternity,
וְיָבוֹא מֶֽלֶךְ הַכָּבוֹד: so that the King of Glory may enter.
מִי זֶה מֶֽלֶךְ הַכָּבוֹד Who is this King of Glory?
יְהֹוָה עִזּוּז וְגִבּוֹר Adonoy, strong and mighty;
יְהֹוָה גִּבּוֹר מִלְחָמָה: Adonoy, the Mighty One in battle.
שְׂאוּ שְׁעָרִים רָאשֵׁיכֶם Lift up your heads, gates,
וּשְׂאוּ פִּתְחֵי עוֹלָם and lift up, entranceways to eternity,
וְיָבוֹא מֶֽלֶךְ הַכָּבוֹד: so that the King of Glory may enter.
מִי הוּא זֶה מֶֽלֶךְ הַכָּבוֹד Who is He, this King of Glory?
יְהֹוָה צְבָאוֹת Adonoy Tzevaos,
הוּא מֶֽלֶךְ הַכָּבוֹד סֶֽלָה: He is the King of Glory, selah.
The Chazzan recites the following Kaddish:
יִתְגַּדַּל וְיִתְקַדַּשׁ שְׁמֵהּ רַבָּא Exalted and sanctified be His great Name
בְּעָלְמָא דִּי בְרָא in the world which He created
כִרְעוּתֵהּ according to His will;
וְיַמְלִיךְ מַלְכוּתֵהּ and may He rule His Kingdom
בְּחַיֵּיכוֹן וּבְיוֹמֵיכוֹן in your lifetime and in your days,
וּבְחַיֵּי and in the lifetime
דְכָל בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל, of the entire House of Yisrael,
בַּעֲגָלָא וּבִזְמַן קָרִיב speedily and in the near future—
וְאִמְרוּ אָמֵן: and say Amein.
יְהֵא שְׁמֵהּ רַבָּא מְבָרַךְ May His great Name be blessed
לְעָלַם וּלְעָלְמֵי עָלְמַיָּא: forever and for all eternity.
יִתְבָּרַךְ וְיִשְׁתַּבַּח Blessed and praised,
וְיִתְפָּאַר וְיִתְרוֹמַם וְיִתְנַשֵּׂא glorified, and exalted and uplifted,
וְיִתְהַדָּר וְיִתְעַלֶּה וְיִתְהַלָּל honored and elevated and extolled
שְׁמֵהּ דְקוּדְשָׁא, בְּרִיךְ הוּא be the Name of the Holy One, blessed is He;
לְעֵֽלָּא וּלְעֵֽלָּא far above
מִכָּל בִּרְכָתָא וְשִׁירָתָא, all the blessings and hymns,
תֻּשְׁבְּחָתָא וְנֶחֱמָתָא, praises and consolations
דַּאֲמִירָן בְּעָלְמָא, וְאִמְרוּ אָמֵן: which we utter in the world—and say Amein.
תִּתְקַבֵּל May there be acceptance
צְלוֹתְהוֹן וּבָעוּתְהוֹן of the prayers and supplications
דְּכָל בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל of the entire House of Yisrael
קֳדָם אֲבוּהוֹן דִּי בִשְׁמַיָּא before their Father in heaven.
וְאִמְרוּ אָמֵן: And say, Amein.
יְהֵא שְׁלָמָא רַבָּא מִן שְׁמַיָּא May there be abundant peace from heaven
וְחַיִּים and life
עָלֵֽינוּ וְעַל כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל for us and for all Yisrael,
וְאִמְרוּ אָמֵן: —and say Amein.
עוֹשֶׂה הַשָּׁלוֹם He Who makes the peace
בִּמְרוֹמָיו in His high heavens
הוּא יַעֲשֶׂה שָׁלוֹם may He, make peace
עָלֵינוּ וְעַל כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל for us and or all Yisrael,
וְאִמְרוּ אָמֵן: and say, Amein.
