Meroz
Sources
A
Those who dwell in it.
Those who remain within his four
amohs.
With four hundred shofar blasts, Barak excommunicated Meroz.
To assist Adonoy.
As if it were possible, if anyone comes to Yisroel's assistance, it is as if he were assisting the Divine Presence.
Rashi on Judges 5:23:3-4
And from where do we
derive
that we ostracize
one who does not obey a court summons?
As it is written: “Curse Meroz”
(Judges 5:23), who was ostracized for not coming to battle after having been summoned. From where is it derived that the ostracized person must be told
that it
was
the decision of a great man
to ostracized him?
As it is written:
“Curse Meroz,
said the messenger of the Lord”
(Judges 5:23).
And from where do we
derive
that,
if he fails to mend his ways,
we excommunicate
such a person more harshly…
Moed Katan 16a:6-8
For God said to them: Be ready to execute the vengeance of my sons. I am going to exact a twofold vengeance from the enemy, once for the six hundred chariots which he lent the Egyptians to make war against Israel, and again for their oppression of my sons till now. Therefore they were judged with two punishments, one of fire and one of water.
Zohar, Vaetchanan 30:181
