A
purifies
the
tribes,
i.e., clarifies their lineage, He will
purify
that of
the tribe of Levi first, as it is stated
with regard to the angel sent forth by God:
“And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver; and there shall be they that shall offer to the Lord offerings in righteousness”
(Malachi 3:3).
Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi says: Money purifies
mamzerim
.
Money causes rich
mamzerim
to become assimilated with Jews of unflawed lineage…
Kiddushin 71a:1-2
The Sage
taught
(
Tosefta
,
Eduyyot
3:4):
There was another
family with flawed lineage,
but the Sages did not want to reveal its
identity to all.
But the Sages transmit its
name
to their children and to their students once every seven years, and some say twice every seven years,
to prevent them from marrying into their family.
Rav Naḥman bar Yitzḥak says: It stands to reason in accordance with the one who says
that they transmit it
once every seven years, as it is taught
in a
baraita
(
Tosefta
…
Kiddushin 71a:9
And
this
baraita
disagrees with
the opinion of
Shmuel, as Shmuel said: The only difference between this world and the messianic era is subjugation of the exiles
to other kingdoms, from which the Jewish people will be released. However, in other respects, the world will remain as it is,
as it is written: “Because the poor will not cease from within the land”
(Deuteronomy 15:11). Society will not change, and wars will continue to be waged.
Shabbat 63a:10
And
the Gemara notes that this statement
disagrees with
the opinion of
Shmuel, as Shmuel said: The only
difference
between this world and the days of the Messiah is
with regard to
servitude to
foreign
kingdoms alone.
While in the days of the Messiah, Israel will be independent and free from enslavement to foreign powers, the world order will remain otherwise unchanged,
as it is stated: “For the poor shall not cease from the land”
(Deuteronomy 15:11), which indicates that the ways of the world are set and unchanging.
Berakhot 34b:20
The Gemara asks:
And according to Shmuel, who says: The difference between this world and the messianic era is only subjugation of the exiles,
as during that era the Jewish people will be freed from that subjugation, how is the contradiction resolved? The Gemara answers that even according to Shmuel this contradiction is
not difficult.
The verse
here,
in Isaiah chapter 30, is written with regard to the light
in the camp of the righteous;
the verse
there,
in Isaiah chapter 24, the verse is written with regard
to the camp of the Divine Presence…
Sanhedrin 91b:11
The Gemara asks:
What
is the meaning of the phrase
“And it declares [
veyafe’aḥ
] of the end, and does not lie”? Rabbi Shmuel bar Naḥmani says
that
Rabbi Yonatan says: May those who calculate the end of days be cursed [
tippaḥ
], as they would say once the end
of days that they calculated
arrived and
the Messiah
did not come,
that
he will no longer come
at all.
Rather,
the proper behavior is to continue to
wait for his
coming,
as it is stated: “Though it tarry, wait for it…
Sanhedrin 97b:9
In the future, the Messianic king will arise and renew the Davidic dynasty, restoring it to its initial sovereignty. He will build the Temple and gather the dispersed of Israel.
Then, in his days, the observance of all the statutes will return to their previous state. We will offer sacrifices, observe the Sabbatical and Jubilee years according to all their particulars as described by the Torah.
Anyone who does not believe in him or does not await his coming, denies not only the statements of the other prophets, but those of the Torah and Moses, our teacher…
