About This Text

Author: Zerachiah HaLevi of Gerona
Sela HaMachlakot, a Hebrew phrase taken from I Samuel 23:28, is the title that Rabbi Zerachiah HaLevi gave his commentaries on two of Ra’avad’s works: one about Mishnah Tractate Kinnim, which discusses bird-offerings, and the other, Ra’avad’s Ba’alei HaNefesh, which discusses laws related to menstruation and sexual conduct. The latter is known as Rabbi Zerachiah HaLevi’s Hasagot (Glosses) and is heavily critical of the Ra’avad’s work. The author’s poetic introduction was added based on manuscript evidence in a recent edition by Yosef Qafiḥ.
