Ra’avad on Sifra is Rabbi Abraham ben David of Posquieres’ 12th-century commentary on the Sifra, a tannaitic legal midrash on the book of Leviticus. Tannaitic midrashim seem not to have been systematically studied in their own rite before the 12th century; Ra'avad's commentary on Sifra is perhaps the earliest commentary on a tannaitic midrash. Ra’avad opens his commentary emphasizing the importance of the oral tradition, an indicator that a goal of his commentary was a repudiation of movements of the time that rejected the rabbinic oral tradition.
