About This Text

Author: Abraham Abulafia
Composed:  1285 CE
Ohr HaSekhel (Light of the Intellect), written by 13th-century kabbalist Abraham Abulafia at the request of his students, is a guide to achieving prophetic enlightenment — or, if prophecy is withheld, at least to unlocking secrets of Torah and the reasons for commandments. Like Abulafia’s other works, it reflects Maimonidean philosophy as well as earlier kabbalistic texts, emphasizing the role of human intellect and the power of letters and their combinations. Each of the ten chapters is connected with a group of letters and a specific topic or goal.
