Matteh Dan, also called Kuzari Part II, is an early 18th-century philosophical work by Italian scholar David Nieto. The work is primarily aimed at proving the legitimacy of rabbinic tradition, following the conversational model of Yehuda Halevi’s Kuzari, which portrayed the king of the Khazars conversing with religious scholars in pursuit of truth. The Kuzari focused on proving the veracity of the written Torah, or Bible; Nieto picks up where it left off, imagining a Jewish scholar in the same kingdom centuries later who, through a series of dialogues with the current king, defends rabbinic tradition against Karaitic arguments.
