Jerusalem Talmud Rosh Hashanah 3:8

משנה: וְהָיָה כַּאֲשֶׁר יָרִים משֶׁה יָדוֹ וְגָבַר יִשְׂרָאֵל וגו׳. וְכִי יָדָיו שֶׁל משֶׁה עוֹשׂוֹת מִלְחָמָה אוֹ שׁוֹבְרוֹת מִלְחָמָה. אֶלָּא כָּל־זְמַן שֶׁהָיוּ יִשְׂרָאֵל מִסְתַּכְּלִין כְּלַפֵּי לְמַעְלָן וּמְכַווְנִין לִיבָּן לַאֲבִיהֶן שֶׁבַּשָּׁמַיִם הָיוּ מִתְגַּבְּרִין. וְאִם לָאו הָיוּ נוֹפְלִין. MISHNAH: It was when Moses lifted his hands then Israel had the upper hand¹⁰²Exodus.17.11">Ex. 17:11., etc. Do Moses’s hands conduct war or break war? הלכה: רִבִּי יְהוּשֻׁעַ בֶֶּן לֵוִי אָמַר. עֲמָלֵק כּוֹשְׁפָן הָיָה. מֶה הָיָה עוֹשֶׂה. הָיָה מַעֲמִיד בְּנֵי אָדָם בְּיוֹם גֵּינִיסִיָּא שֶׁלּוֹ. לוֹמַר. לֹא בִמְהֵרָה אָדָם נוֹפֵל בְּיוֹם גֵּינִיסִיָּא שֶׁלּוֹ. מֶה עָשָׂה מֹשֶׁה. עִירְבֵּב אֶת הַמַּזָּלוֹת. הָדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב שֶׁ֥מֶשׁ יָרֵ֖חַ עָ֣מַד זְבוּלָה וגו׳. וּכְתִיב נָתַ֤ן תְּהוֹם֙ קוֹל֔וֹ ר֖וֹם יָדֵ֥יהוּ נָשָׂ‍ֽא. מֵר֖וֹם יָדֵ֥יהוּ נָשָׂ‍ֽא נָתַ֤ן תְּהוֹם֙ קוֹל֔וֹ. שְׁמוּאֵל אָמַר. וְצָבָ֛א תִּינָּתֵן עַל־הַתָּמִ֖יד בְּפָ֑שַׁע. כְפִשְׁעָהּ שֶׁלְתוֹרָה. וְתַשְׁלֵ֤ךְ אֱמֶת֙ אַ֔רְצָה. אֵימָתַי שֶׁיִּשְׂרָאֵל מַשְׁלִיכִין דִּבְרֵי תוֹרָה לָאָרֶץ הַמַּלְכוּת הָ‍ֽרְשָׁעָה הַזֹּאת גוֹזֶרֶת וּמַצְלַחַת. מַה טַעַם. וְתַשְׁלֵ֤ךְ אֱמֶת֙ אַ֔רְצָה וְעָשְׂתָ֖ה וְהִצְלִ‍ֽיחָה׃ וְאֵין אֱמֶת אֶלָּא תוֹרָה. הֵיךְ מַה דְאַתְּ אָמַר אֱמֶ֣ת קְ֭נֵה וְאַל־תִּמְכּוֹר חָכְמָ֖ה וּמוּסָ֣ר וּבִינָ‍ֽה. אָמַר רִבִּי יוּדָה בַּר פָּזִי. זָנַ֥ח יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל ט֑וֹב אוֹיֵ֖ב יִרְדְּפ‍ֽוֹ׃ וְאֵין טוֹב אֶלָּא תוֹרָה. הֵיךְ מַה דְאַתְּ אָמַר כִּ֤י לֶ֣קַח ט֭וֹב נָתַ֣תִּי לָכֶ֑ם תּ֝‍ֽוֹרָתִ֗י אַל תַּעֲזוֹבוּ: HALAKHAH: Rebbi Joshua ben Levi said, Amaleq was a sorcerer. What did he do?
