About This Text
Author: Rashi
Composed: c.990 – c.1190 CE
Issur VeHeter LeRashi is an incomplete composition of rulings and responsa attributed to Rashi. Though its title implies that it addresses dietary laws (“Issur VeHeter'' literally means “forbidden and permitted” and is the term often used to refer to dietary laws), the work covers a range of topics, with the first third addressing holidays. The work is one of several works - Machzor Vitri being another notable one - compiled after Rashi’s death in an attempt to collect his legal positions.
