About This Text

Authors: Moses Kimchi, Abraham ibn Ezra
Composed: Middle-Age France/Italy/England, c.1155 – c.1165 CE
This commentary was historically attributed to Rabbi Abraham ibn Ezra, one of the foremost biblical commentators in 12th-century Spain. Modern scholarship clarified that the commentary on the books of Ezra, Nechemia, and Proverbs were in fact authored by Rabbi Moses Kimchi, a European scholar who lived in the same period. Kimchi was a grammarian and poet, and was instrumental in raising his younger brother, David Kimchi (known as “Radak”) after the passing of their father, Joseph Kimchi.
