והילדים - טעם ארבעתם, שהיו שוים בכל חכמה רק דניאל הוסיף עליהם שהיה מבין בכל חזון ופתרון חלומות, כי הוא לבדו היה נביא ולא השלשה. [Daniel 1:17] Veha-yeladim (וְהַיְלָדִים - And [to] these youths): The reason [it specifies] “the four of them” (arba’atam - אַרְבַּעְתָּם) is [to emphasize] that they were equal in all [general] wisdom. However, Daniel had an additional [ability] beyond them, in that he understood every vision and the interpretation of dreams, for he alone was a prophet, and not the [other] three.
